HOW TO GET THROUGH A RED LIGHT LEGALLY

I don't really know if this is 100% legal. I've never tried it but I've wondered about it ever since I was a kid and learned it was okay to make a U-turn in the middle of the road.

Something tells me it would get me into trouble if I tried it, and I'd like for a policeman to officially tell me it would be illegal. That would rest my mind.

Anyway, here's my theory:

This is only posted for educational purposes, so if you try it and get into trouble don't go blaming me.

  2. You're braver than me. I've not tried it myself.

  3. The red car's final turn appears to be right, not left.

Even if state law allows a right turn on a red light, you still have to be careful. The law requires you make a complete stop first. And if the cop says your wheels didn't completely stop turning, the traffic court judge will take his/her word for it 99% of the time.

Also, you have to know the local law in that jurisdiction. State law may allow "right on red," but the city or county might have an ordinance against it.

  4. It seems like it would be more trouble than it's worth. By the time you finished the U-turn, the light would probably change, anyway.

  5. Oops. It should say "right." Maybe that's my out. If someone tries it and blames me I didn't actually tell them to turn THAT way.

It's mostly a question. I just wonder about it. There are some lights in town that stay red forever,

  6. Cyclists other than me do this all the time. It always seemed like a lot of extra effort. I don't think I have ever seen a car or similar conveyance do so however. Is it too late to wish you a Happy New Year KW?

  7. I guess it's not too late. It's still 2015.Happy New Year to you too! I can't figure out if it would be worth the trouble, or if it really is legal. It seems like you could do it in a few seconds but I wouldn't know unless I actually tried it. I know I sit at red lights for half a minute or maybe more.
