"EVIL MIND" word trickery!

I never have enough evil stuff on this here blog of evil. Being determined not to keep going on like that, I sat and brain-grunted until some evil finally squeezed out.

I have 3 versions here. It says EVIL MIND, and when you turn it upside down it still says EVIL MIND.

I incorrectly call this a palindrome. I was told the last time I posted some of these this is called a "reflection."

I've been trying to think of something I could put this on. It would be best if it were something which flipped upside down, and rightside up, and was head-related. Maybe a hat, but I don't know why someone would wear a hat upside down. I need some brain-storming ideas. Does anybody have any?

Here are some post-it note doodles that have been scanned and colored. I like the look of simple 2-tone shades much more than airbrushed shading when it comes to black outlined drawings.




I don't enjoy modern comics because of the airbrushed shading they all have. I don't know exactly why it bothers me so much. Maybe it's because of nostalgia for the older flat color style. It wouldn't bother me so much if all the objects had a singular light source, but when I see them it looks like different objects in the same picture are lit separately in a way so each object has it's own uniquely-placed spotlight.

It's weird (to me) to shade something if it's already outlined. If it's shaded then the outlines aren't even necessary. If something isn't shaded then outlines are needed to delineate the forms and shapes. Having both is like wearing boots on top of shoes.

Since I'm already whining about comics, also I don't like the shiny glary paper. I liked old newsprint. It's both cheaper AND easier to see. Also it tones down the gaudy primary colors into something pleasing. I miss the advertisements too. Twinkies ads were just as fun as the actual comics pages.

I always wonder if they quit spending so much time airbrushing, and used cheap paper, and made the books half-full of ads if I could afford them again.

Whoever's in charge, hurry up and fix this stuff!

POST-IT NOTES ARE FUN

Drawing on Post-It notes is good practice because it forces me to cut out all but the most important lines since I don't have a lot of room to work on. Also it trains me to compose everything in a box shape. Box shapes are pleasing to the eye and very useful when it comes to designing logos, comics and album-type illustration.

The very nature of it creates a No-worry Throw-away attitude in my brain. When I can go about it with that attitude I never tire of drawing. I relax and waste paper with no regrets.

It's also a very discreet method of drawing when you don't like everyone to know what you are doing.
One illustrator I admire said when you draw very small, thumbnail size, you can take in the entire image in one glance. I think that's true. Drawing very small is good for creating initial sketches and getting proportions correct.

Sometimes on a larger scale you lose your bearings when you can't see the foot at the same time you look at the head. This happens sometimes on mural illustration. It's very difficult to know if you have the mouth in the right spot when the eyes are several feet away. Natural perspective also does evil trickery on your brain. What you think you see up close is nothing at all what other people see standing across the street.
