HOW TO MAKE A GUITAR-PLAYING EGGROLL part 6

EGGROLL! (continued from yesterday)

Today I'll make his squiggly spaghetti noodle-looking arms.

This wood specie is called beech. It comes already pre-soaked in some chemicals to make it rubbery. It's used in furniture building to put woven cane into chair backs, kind of like the rubber strips used to put screens in doors.

You soak this in water for a while and its becomes bendy and flexible. When I got it curved into the contour I liked I wrapped it with string to hold it in place until it dried.

A hole was drilled into the body to hold the arm.

I didn't glue it in yet. I wanna paint it 1st and then glue all the pieces together.

Voila! That's the hand that will be strumming the strings. I did the other arm exactly the same way.

Also I didn't glue it in yet because I'll need to put the guitar in place 1st. The building of this guy is almost complete. Soon I'll be able to paint him. Visit again tomorrow!

  3. I had no idea you could buy rubbery wood like that. Very cool. I was wondering how that was done. -- Mykal

  4. Apocolyte, thanks friend!

Copperhead, thanks for the comment and the visit!

Mykal, the nice thing about using bendy wood is it has long grain through the entire length of the arm, so it won't break as easily.

  6. Thanks Willy! I don't watch too much tv, but I do watch a ton of DVDs. I like to make stuff and watch movies at the same time.
